Kennedy Agyapong leads in 11 regions for NPP flagbearer race
A recent survey on the New Patriotic Party flagbearer race shows former Assin Central lawmaker Kennedy Ohene Agyapong leading in 11 regions under optimal conditions. Academic researchers led by Evans Duah found the former legislator expanded his support base substantially in southern areas, but former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia maintains northern dominance.
Duah presented findings on Monday, Oct. 20, and said Agyapong leads in nine regions at a minimum, but could secure 11 under favorable circumstances. The researcher noted gains in swing regions like Ahafo and Bono, where the candidate previously trailed.
Both frontrunners hold regional strongholds unlikely to shift regardless of campaign tactics. Duah said each candidate faces a ceiling of 11 regions, but Agyapong’s advances in two swing areas have altered the competitive landscape.
The Jan. 31, 2026, contest also features Abetifi lawmaker Bryan Acheampong, former Education Minister Osei Yaw Adutwum, and ex-party General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong seeking to lead the opposition into the 2028 elections.
