Kennedy Agyapong leads Bawumia in NPP flagbearer poll
A recent academic survey shows former Assin Central lawmaker Kennedy Ohene Agyapong leads among New Patriotic Party delegates before the flagbearer election. Researchers found Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia maintains significant backing, but Agyapong’s appeal has grown stronger than his rival’s position.
The August through September poll gave Agyapong 44.11 percent support compared with Bawumia’s 39.51 percent. Lead researcher Evans Duah told reporters on Monday, Oct. 20, that Agyapong could win outright if voting occurred immediately, and the former legislator shows greater strength in southern areas while Bawumia dominates northern regions.
Other candidates, such as Bryan Acheampong and Osei Adutwum, are making progress, but Duah said the contest remains between two frontrunners. September data indicate Agyapong appears capable of securing the required majority threshold for victory.
