Omari Wadie dismisses Alan Kyerematen’s United Party as non-starter
A former New Patriotic Party official dismissed Alan Kyerematen’s United Party as insignificant to the opposition’s electoral prospects. Omari Wadie said the former Trade and Industry Minister’s departure represents a familiar pattern that will not weaken party cohesion or voter support.
Wadie spoke on Accra 100.5 FM on Monday, Oct. 20, and said the NPP has weathered similar exits throughout its history. The former second vice chairman suggested the United Party name connects to political tradition but lacks the substance to reshape Ghana’s political environment.
Wadie alleged that government elements may be supporting Kyerematen’s organization to fracture NPP unity. He said the minister’s decision to form a separate party stems from the NPP’s 2024 presidential candidate selection process.
The party veteran said the opposition remains focused on regaining public confidence before the 2028 elections.
