Kokang party chief vows equality, unity for all
The Kokang Democracy and Unity Party shared its political platform and organizational approach during a broadcast presentation on the evening of Nov. 4. Party Chairman U Yan Kyin Kan addressed ethnic Kokang citizens and the broader national population during the televised appearance.
Yan Kyin Kan explained that his organization was first registered in 1989 under Myanmar’s political party regulations and has maintained legal status through subsequent renewals. The party secured parliamentary representation during the 2015 elections by winning a national assembly seat from Kunlong Township and additional positions in Shan State legislative bodies after campaigning across Lashio, Hsenwi and Kunlong districts. The chairman noted that ethnic Kokang communities remain behind in educational attainment, medical services and economic prosperity despite being distributed throughout Myanmar, with concentrations in mountainous border zones.
The party leader emphasized commitments to preserving territorial integrity, maintaining national unity and protecting sovereignty while pursuing federal democratic governance. Yan Kyin Kan said his organization seeks to help Kokang populations develop alongside other ethnic communities through political participation and social advancement. He concluded by expressing hopes that all Myanmar citizens would experience peaceful conditions.
