Kolkata shoppers feel relief as retail inflation hits 99-month low
India’s retail inflation dropped to a 99-month low of 1.5% in September, offering relief to shoppers and businesses in Kolkata ahead of the festive season. With food inflation easing to 1.4% and GST adjustments, consumers are more willing to spend, while store owners see more foot traffic.
The Reserve Bank of India has also lowered its inflation forecast for FY 2025-26 to 2.6%, signaling price stability. According to an SBI report, CPI could fall below 0.5% next month, boosting confidence among consumers and traders.
Local shopkeeper Ajay Madnani notes that customer visits have risen since GST cuts. For buyers like Biswadeep Sarkar, stable prices and savings are already noticeable, helping boost spending. With Diwali approaching, both shoppers and businesses are optimistic about continued growth.
