Lavrov stresses need for compromises in creating Palestinian state
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov emphasized the need for compromise in the creation of a Palestinian state, noting that the status quo is no longer acceptable to the Arab world or the Palestinians. He argued that municipalities or quasi-governmental structures would not be seen as a satisfactory solution after nearly 80 years of conflict.
Lavrov acknowledged Israel’s concerns about terrorism but stated that the unresolved issue of Palestinian statehood is the root cause of growing extremism in the Arab world. He highlighted the harsh conditions faced by Palestinians, particularly in Gaza and the West Bank, under blockade and occupation, and stressed the importance of addressing the lack of progress toward a Palestinian state. While acknowledging the complexity of the situation, Lavrov insisted that mutual concessions are essential for peace.
