Lula to visit Bangladesh to strengthen ties with Yunus

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has shown interest in visiting Bangladesh soon to strengthen bilateral ties. He announced his intention during a meeting with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at the World Food Forum in Rome on Monday. The two leaders discussed topics such as universal healthcare, social inclusion, and poverty alleviation, with Lula expressing a desire to learn from Bangladesh’s success in social business and microcredit.

Lula confirmed he would visit by February and welcomed collaboration in sectors like pharmaceuticals, deep-sea fishing, and climate change action ahead of COP30. He also invited Yunus to attend the summit in the Amazon, which Yunus thanked him for but declined due to Bangladesh’s upcoming elections.

The leaders also discussed enhancing trade between the two nations and bonded over their shared passion for football.
