Maharashtra crumbles early against Kerala in Ranji opener
Maharashtra’s 2025/26 Ranji Trophy season got off to a disastrous start on Wednesday against Kerala at the Green Field Stadium, with the team crashing to 5-4 in just the fourth over. Kerala’s MD Nidheesh made an instant impact, dismissing Prithvi Shaw for a duck on his Maharashtra debut, followed by two more quick wickets in the same over. Basil NP joined the party, sending Arshin Kulkarni packing with his first delivery, while skipper Ankeet Bawana was dismissed soon after.
Shaw, who had a stellar warm-up match with a century against Mumbai, will be disappointed by his failure to get going in this match. After a turbulent period with Mumbai, Shaw’s move to Maharashtra was expected to spark his red-ball career revival. At the time of writing, Maharashtra was 58-5, with Ruturaj Gaikwad and Jalaj Saxena at the crease. The team’s rocky start is a tough challenge in a competitive Group B, which includes strong teams like Kerala, Saurashtra, and Karnataka.
