Man arrested after 48 years on the run for 1977 attempted murder
In a jaw-dropping turn of events, Mumbai’s Colaba Police have arrested 71-year-old Chandrashekhar Madhukar Kalekar, who had been on the run for 48 years. Kalekar was wanted in connection with a 1977 attempted murder case where he attacked his girlfriend with a knife, suspecting her of infidelity. After being granted bail, he vanished, and multiple warrants were issued over the years.
The police reopened the case six months ago, and after a long search, they discovered Kalekar’s name in a 2015 road rage incident registered in Dapoli. When officers showed up at his doorstep, he was stunned, having nearly forgotten about the crime. Despite his altered appearance, Kalekar confessed to the attack and was remanded to judicial custody.
