Man declared dead years ago found alive in park
Rangers discovered a man legally declared dead while investigating unauthorized camping in Pirin National Park on Wednesday, Oct. 30. Security personnel encountered the individual during their inspection and attempted to collect identification documents to issue a citation for violations. The man responded with hostility and refused to cooperate, prompting staff members to request police assistance.
Officers transported him to the Bansko police station after determining he carried no identification papers. Database searches revealed authorities had previously listed him as missing before a court issued an official death declaration. The aggressive behavior displayed when rangers initially approached him created safety concerns that necessitated law enforcement intervention.
Park officials routinely patrol protected areas to prevent illegal occupation and enforce camping regulations. This case marks an unusual discovery where records showed an individual no longer living had been located within park boundaries years after being documented as deceased through legal proceedings.
