Manoj Bajpayee celebrates 22 years of ‘Pinjar’ and its National Awards win
Manoj Bajpayee commemorated 22 years since the release of Pinjar on Friday by acknowledging the film’s significance in his acting career. The Chandraprakash Dwivedi film earned two National Awards despite receiving no mainstream recognition, with Bajpayee securing his second Special Jury Award alongside the Best Feature Film on National Integration honor.
The adaptation of Amrita Pritam’s Punjabi novel examined unity and human suffering caused by India’s division through the story of a Hindu woman abducted and forced into marriage before partition. Urmila Matondkar, Sanjay Suri and Sandali Sinha joined the ensemble cast backed by Lucky Star Entertainment with music from Uttam Singh.
Santosh Thundiyil handled cinematography, while Ballu Saluja edited the production, which debuted on Oct. 24, 2003. Critics praised the film’s portrayal of Hindu-Muslim tensions surrounding the creation of two separate nations.
