Maung Maung Ohn kicks off Tatkon Kathina bash
Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn attended the opening of the 55th Tatkon Township Maha Kathina Festival at Sasana Beikman in Tatkon Township. Following ceremonial rites, he and officials viewed offerings prepared by government offices, schools, wards, and private donors. The festival runs from October 31 to November 4, featuring donation processions, traditional music, and dance performances.
The main ceremony will be held on November 6 at Aung San Hall, with offerings distributed to 49 monasteries. That evening, five large and 500 small hot-air balloons will be launched. A traditional cart race with 28 teams will take place from November 1 to 3, offering prizes of 5 million kyats for first place, 4 million kyats for second place, 3 million kyats for third place, 1 million kyats for a special award, and 500,000 kyats for other participants. Artists will perform nightly entertainment from November 2 to 4.
Earlier that day, the minister inspected Myanma Radio and Television (MRTV) preparations for political party campaign recordings for the December 28, 2025, general election, urging adherence to procedures and production quality. He also reviewed earthquake repair work at MRTV headquarters by Shwe Taung Construction and visited staff housing to observe meal arrangements and meet employees.
