Min Aung Hlaing celebrates Tazaungdine in style
Myanmar’s military leadership participated in Buddhist observances on Tuesday night during the Tazaungmone full moon celebration, which marks Samañaphala Day in the religious calendar. Senior General Min Aung Hlaing attended candle-lighting ceremonies at Shwephonepwint Pagoda in Nay Pyi Taw’s Zeyathiri Township with senior officials and their spouses. The group presented floral tributes and water offerings at the shrine while observing the annual festival.
Believers across the country honored the occasion through meditation sessions, scripture recitations and donations of ceremonial robes to monks. Communities gathered at temples to light lamps, release floating candles on waterways and present woven garments to Buddhist images. Multi-colored illumination adorned military compound structures and pathways in the capital as service members’ families marked the holiday.
Coastal areas and recreational sites drew large crowds during the festival period. Regional populations took part in religious processions honoring Shin Uppagutta while charity markets operated at various locations. Traditional practices included sharing Cassia bud salad preparations and offering food donations to monastics throughout the celebration.
