Min Aung Hlaing flaunts Buddha riches

The 2025 Kathina robe offering ceremony was held at Maravijaya Monastery in Dekkhinathiri Township, Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory. Acting President and Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, and his wife, Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, attended the event and offered Kathina robes and alms.

The ceremony included senior monastic figures such as the Presiding Patron of Pali Tekkatho Mingalazeyon Buddhism Learning Centre in Pyinmana and the Presiding Patron of Maravijaya Monastery, along with invited Sangha members. The Senior General first paid respects to the Buddha image with meals, fruits, flowers, and water. He and attendees then received the Five Precepts from Maravijaya Monastery’s Sayadaw, followed by the recitation of the Metta Sutta.

Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and his wife donated robes and offerings to the Maravijaya Monastery Sayadaw. Other high-ranking officials, including Vice-Senior General Soe Win, Prime Minister U Nyo Saw, and Union ministers, also presented donations to monks. Mingalazeyon Sayadaw gave a sermon, and merits were shared by Maravijaya Monastery Sayadaw. Guests viewed 12 Padethabin structures decorated with offerings, and the Senior General and his wife performed golden and silver shower rituals to conclude the event. A total of 53,501,000 kyats in cash, robes, and structures was donated. Attendees included Union-level dignitaries, the Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman, senior Tatmadaw officers, and command officials.
