Mirchev says Peevski-linked firms leave Bulgaria without fuel reserves
Bulgaria lacks genuine 90-day fuel reserves because companies linked to Delyan Peevski have avoided their storage obligations, according to Yes Bulgaria co-chair Ivaylo Mirchev. The lawmaker stated on Facebook that firms connected to Peevski circumvent requirements to reduce expenses while receiving protection from state institutions, including the State Reserve, National Agency for National Security and courts.
Mirchev warned that approximately one-third of purported reserves exist overseas and could require 45 days for delivery. He noted additional complications stem from storage at Lukoil facilities and crude oil requiring refinery processing. The deputy emphasized that US sanctions taking effect on November 21 could freeze warehouse access and prevent government payments to Lukoil, blocking portions of the national reserves.
The politician called for immediate action to secure complete fuel stockpiles within Bulgarian territory rather than relying on foreign storage arrangements.
