MMA urges caution as Influenza A, B cases surge in Malaysia

The Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) is urging the public to stay calm but remain alert as cases of Influenza A and B surge across the country. The number of influenza clusters has skyrocketed from 14 to 97 in just one week, mostly affecting schools and educational institutions.

In response, Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) has instructed 34 of its boarding schools to switch to home-based learning. MMA president Datuk Dr Thirunavukarasu Rajoo assured that while the rise in cases is being monitored by the Ministry of Health, it’s typical for this time of year.

He emphasized good hygiene practices, such as frequent hand washing, covering coughs, and wearing masks when unwell. Dr Thirunavukarasu also advised those with persistent symptoms to seek medical help early and urged high-risk groups, including children, the elderly, pregnant women, and those with chronic conditions, to take extra precautions and consider vaccination.
