JPJ seizes 10 vehicles in crackdown on illegal prebet sapu drivers
The Road Transport Department (JPJ) seized ten vehicles in a crackdown on illegal “prebet sapu” drivers in the city yesterday. The operation, known as Ops Fokus (Prebet Sapu) Bil. 3/2025, targeted areas around Jalan Bukit Bintang and Jalan Sultan Ismail after public complaints about illegal taxi services.
“Prebet sapu” involves unlicensed individuals using personal or rented vehicles to transport passengers for a fee. JPJ Federal Territory director Hamidi Adam confirmed that some drivers were operating without valid licences and misusing vehicle permits. Among the offenders were five foreign nationals from Bangladesh, Yemen, India, and Sudan, along with five Malaysians.
In total, 27 vehicles were inspected, and 26 summonses were issued. JPJ also detained vehicles for violations like lack of driving licences, operator permits, and misuse of road tax. Hamidi warned that vehicle owners allowing foreigners to drive illegally would face legal consequences and promised continued enforcement to maintain road safety and transport system integrity.
