MP calls for taskforce to probe insurance firms’ interference in doctors’ decisions

PKR’s Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin called for the creation of a national taskforce to investigate insurance companies’ alleged interference with doctors’ clinical decisions. He referenced a recent survey by CodeBlue, where 855 specialists revealed that patients suffered or faced delays due to insurers rejecting or delaying healthcare coverage.

Sim pointed out that many of these patients had paid premiums faithfully, only to find insurance companies failing to protect them when needed most. He suggested that insurers may have broken the law by interfering with medical decisions. Sim urged the Health Ministry, Bank Negara, and the police to form a taskforce to investigate these cases and hear from specialists.

He also proposed establishing a Private Healthcare Commission to address issues in the private healthcare sector, noting that the current healthcare cost committee is temporary. Sim emphasized the importance of protecting patients and ensuring justice for them.
