MPO teachers warn of March to Jamuna if talks fail
Protesting MPO-listed teachers and staff have warned that they will proceed with their planned “March to Jamuna” if discussions with the government fail to yield a positive outcome. The warning came after talks between the government and the protesters’ representatives at the Secretariat on Thursday.
Since Sunday, the teachers and staff of private institutions under the Monthly Pay Order (MPO) scheme have been protesting to demand a 20% increase in their basic pay as house rent, a minimum of Tk3,000, Tk1,500 medical allowance, and a 75% increase in the festival bonus.
Saiful Islam, one of the demonstrators, said that while the march was planned for Thursday afternoon, it has been postponed for now due to ongoing talks. However, he stressed that if the discussions do not lead to a positive outcome, they will go ahead with the march.
