Multiple explosions and bus fires erupt in Dhaka amid lockdown protests
Multiple explosive devices detonated across Dhaka on Monday as the outlawed Awami League called for a lockdown, with incidents reported near the Bangladesh Radio building in Agargaon and Shah Ali Market at Mirpur-10 during evening hours. Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police confirmed an unidentified person threw an explosive at the radio facility’s main entrance around 7:45 p.m., though authorities reported no injuries from either location.
Earlier attacks began at 3:45 a.m. when assailants threw a hand bomb outside Grameen Bank headquarters in Mirpur before fleeing. Additional blasts occurred at 7:10 a.m. near Prabartana, a food establishment operated by Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter on Sir Syed Road in Mohammadpur, and around the same time at Rapa Plaza and Ibn Sina Hospital in Dhanmondi.
Arsonists targeted at least three buses throughout the day, including a private university vehicle torched near Labaid Hospital at 7:30 p.m. Victor Paribahan and Akash Paribahan buses were set ablaze in Shahjadpur and Merul Badda, respectively, during morning hours. Police continued examining security footage to identify perpetrators.
