Museveni promises more development for Maracha, praises NRM’s progress in West Nile

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni assured supporters in Maracha District that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) delivers real progress, not cheap popularity. Speaking at a campaign rally, he highlighted the recent connection of West Nile to the national electricity grid as a critical step toward industrializing Uganda. The 132KV power line from Karuma to Arua, he emphasized, will drive economic growth, particularly in industrialization and agro-processing.

Museveni also touched on the region’s education improvements, noting Maracha now has 62 government primary schools and 7 secondary schools. He reaffirmed his commitment to free education, eliminating school charges, and addressing the teacher shortage with plans to recruit 50,000 more teachers. On infrastructure, he promised more road projects, including the Atiak-Adjumani and Panyimur-Rhino Camp roads, to enhance connectivity.

The President praised the region’s strategic location and its role as a commercial corridor for trade with South Sudan and the DRC. He also stressed the importance of the Parish Development Model (PDM) in boosting household incomes, revealing that UGX 27.9 billion has been disbursed to over 30,000 households in Maracha. He urged Ugandans to protect the peace and progress achieved under the NRM, warning against divisive politics.

First Lady Janet Museveni and other NRM leaders praised the government’s achievements, highlighting West Nile’s transformation from a war-torn region to a growing, peaceful area. Local leaders expressed strong support for Museveni, citing improvements in infrastructure, education, and water access, with plans for further agricultural and irrigation projects to boost local economies.
