Myanmar cracks down on scam migrants

Myanmar authorities deported 166 foreign nationals caught running online gambling and fraud schemes near the Thai border. Officials arrested the group after they entered illegally through neighboring countries and operated from Myawady in Kayin State.

Immigration officers processed identification records to return the suspects to their home nations. District administrator U Kaung San Lin supervised data collection at detention facilities with ministry staff.

The government expelled 9,365 of 10,640 arrested foreign nationals between Jan. 30 and Oct. 29. Another 1,275 detainees await transfer under legal protocols.

Authorities work with regional governments to dismantle trafficking networks and criminal operations. Officials coordinate repatriation for victims who entered Myanmar through deceptive recruitment.
