Myanmar delegation tours China’s offshore wind farm

Electric Power Minister U Nyan Tun concluded his China visit by touring a 480-megawatt offshore wind facility in Jiangsu Province on Monday. China Longyuan Power Group built the Rudong Huan Gang project in five construction stages from 2009 to 2015, with an investment of 2.54 billion yuan.

The delegation examined turbine foundations and generation systems at the coastal installation. Engineers described how the facility expanded from 30 megawatts in the first phase to full capacity after adding 40 turbines rated at four megawatts each in 2015.

U Nyan Tun met representatives from Chinese firms partnering with Myanmar’s power ministry. Discussions covered operational requirements and expansion plans for joint hydropower and energy ventures.

The minister returned to Myanmar by air after meetings with representatives of ShweLi Hydropower, Yunnan United Power Development, Goodwe Technologies, and POWERCHINA Chengdu Engineering.
