Myanmar, Egypt seal farm pact

Myanmar and Egypt signed an agriculture cooperation agreement on Tuesday that updates their 1994 partnership. Egyptian Deputy Minister Mostafa El-Sayad and Myanmar Agriculture Director General Ye Tint Tun completed the deal at the Ministry of Agriculture in Cairo’s administrative capital.

The memorandum establishes frameworks for technology sharing, training programs, research collaboration and sustainable farming methods between both nations. Officials expect the agreement to expand trade in farm products and strengthen bilateral ties.

Myanmar will ship rice, peanut oil, corn, coffee, tea, fish and shrimp to Egypt under current trade discussions. Egypt plans to send fertilizers, pesticides, produce, potatoes, citrus, drinks and food additives to Myanmar.

Myanmar Ambassador Kyaw Tin Shein and Egyptian Deputy Agriculture Minister Alaa Farouk attended the ceremony at the headquarters of the land reclamation ministry.
