Min Aung Hlaing pushes rush to polls
Myanmar’s military chief ordered officials to ensure accurate voter lists and prevent electoral fraud as campaign activities begin for the multiparty general election starting on Dec. 28. Senior General Min Aung Hlaing told ministers and regional leaders on Tuesday that authorities must work to establish a stable government through successful polls.
The acting president directed governments to spend approved budgets efficiently to boost economic circulation and infrastructure development. He pushed for quick-win projects delivering rapid benefits to citizens while emphasizing support for small businesses in the agriculture and livestock sectors.
Min Aung Hlaing highlighted plans to expand sunflower cultivation to reduce edible oil imports and promote coffee as a long-term income crop. Officials discussed opening technical schools for the five million people who failed university entrance exams since 2021 to train workers in farming and industrial fields.
Regional chiefs reported on earthquake damage repairs, agricultural output targets and election preparations. The military leader awarded cash prizes to the Kayin State women’s football team after their tournament victory.
