Myanmar foreign minister holds talks in Uganda

U Than Swe, Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of Myanmar, attended the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Ministerial Meeting in Kampala, Uganda, and held bilateral talks at the Speke Resort Convention Centre. On 15 October, he met with foreign ministers from Mozambique, Iran, Belarus, Cuba, and Bangladesh, as well as the Nicaraguan ambassador.

On 16 October, he met Uganda’s Foreign Minister, General Odongo Jeje Abubakhar. The meetings focused on strengthening diplomatic ties, political consultations, and cooperation in trade and tourism. Myanmar also reaffirmed its commitment to repatriating displaced people from Rakhine State in talks with Bangladesh’s Foreign Advisor.

Discussions with Uganda and Mozambique explored the possibility of establishing diplomatic relations and areas for future cooperation. Myanmar currently has diplomatic relations with 126 countries, including 21 in Africa.
