Myanmar hosts ASEAN port leaders in Yangon meeting

Representatives from nine Southeast Asian countries gathered in Yangon as the Myanma Port Authority hosted the 49th annual session of the ASEAN Ports Association at the Wyndham Grand Yangon Hotel. The event brought together senior officials, such as Union Minister U Mya Tun Oo, the Chief Minister of Yangon Region U Soe Thein, and leaders from regional ministries, to open discussions on regional port development. Delegates from each member nation, along with executive members of the association, attended the ceremony and participated in meetings focused on collaboration and sustainable growth.

Union Minister U Mya Tun Oo opened the conference by highlighting Myanmar’s honor in welcoming guests and emphasized the meeting’s central theme, which focuses on shared efforts and long-term progress for the region’s ports. He noted the importance of ports as key drivers of economic activity in Southeast Asia and underscored ongoing efforts among member countries to pursue digital transformation, innovative practices, and decarbonization, while strengthening human resource development. Throughout the gathering, participants exchanged insights aimed at advancing maritime connectivity, improving port operations, and fostering sustainable development across ASEAN’s network.
