Myawady authorities seize drugs, weapons in crackdown
Authorities in Myawady Township, Kayin State, reported numerous legal actions from 2021 through late October of 2025. The district police force documented 256 cases under the Counter-Terrorism Law and 347 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.
Investigations revealed that Thai traders were responsible for transporting the seized contraband, which included weapons and drugs, through illegal border gates along armed group supply routes. Drug seizures were substantial, encompassing over 2.5 million methamphetamine tablets, thousands of grams of crystal methamphetamine and ketamine, and large quantities of heroin and dried cannabis. Firearms confiscated included dozens of pistols, AK-47 and M-4 rifles, along with thousands of rounds of accompanying ammunition and various explosives.
