Nazaryan rise signals election chaos
Nikolay Denkov believes Raya Nazaryan’s selection as National Assembly Speaker signals preparations for snap elections. The PP-DB member said Nazaryan’s appointment places someone loyal to both Borisov and Peevski in the position to execute their directives.
The former prime minister dismissed suggestions of meaningful government changes beyond the parliamentary leadership shift. Budget preparations started just days ago, with last-minute modifications to the National Health Insurance Fund allocation for young doctor salaries, demonstrating serious procedural delays.
Denkov criticized the draft budget parameters that raise social security contributions by 2 percent while freezing maternity and social payments. Workers and employers each face an additional annual contribution of 600 leva to poorly monitored funds, as family support measures remain unimplemented.
The PP-DB politician addressed the Lukoil refinery situation and praised government moves to secure fuel supplies. Germany received European Union derogations for Lukoil and Rosneft refineries by appointing special administrators in advance rather than through preferential treatment.
