Nigar Sultana admits Bangladesh’s batting inconsistency in Australia loss

Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Joty acknowledged that her team’s inconsistency with the bat and the absence of two key bowlers contributed to their heavy loss to Australia in the ICC Women’s World Cup. Despite a strong start with an early wicket in the power play, Bangladesh could only manage 198 runs, which left their bowlers with little to defend. Australia’s openers, Alyssa Healy and Phoebe Litchfield, comfortably chased down the target in just 25 overs for a 10-wicket victory.

Joty highlighted the need for better batting consistency and explained the team’s experimental approach, including Rubya Haider taking over wicketkeeping duties. Though it was a tough day for the bowlers, Joty remained optimistic, focusing on the positives and looking ahead to their next match against Sri Lanka.

“We started well with one wicket down in the powerplay, but struggled with partnerships after that. In these conditions, we should’ve scored more. Missing two key bowlers hurt us. We also wanted to try Rubya as a keeper. It was a tough day for the bowlers, but I believe we are better than this. We have to learn from this loss and take the positives into our next games,” said Joty.
