Nigeria qualifies for World Cup play-offs after 4-0 win

Nigeria has secured a spot in the 2026 World Cup qualifying playoffs after their dominant 4-0 victory over Benin Republic. The Super Eagles triumphed at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, with Victor Osimhen’s stunning hat-trick leading the charge. Frank Onyeka sealed the win with a late goal, boosting Nigeria’s goal difference as one of Africa’s top runners-up.

Along with Gabon and Cameroon, Nigeria will compete in a mini-tournament in November 2025, with the four best runners-up from Africa battling for a chance at the World Cup. The playoffs will feature six countries from different continents, and the winners of the bracket finals will secure their spot in the 2026 tournament.
