South Africa seals 2026 World Cup spot with 3-0 win over Rwanda
Seven African countries have now secured their places in the 2026 World Cup. South Africa became the latest to qualify, thrashing Rwanda 3-0 on Tuesday evening, with goals from Thalente Mbatha, Oswin Appollis, and Evidence Makgopa. Finishing top of Group C with 18 points, South Africa edged Nigeria by one point, marking their first World Cup appearance since hosting the tournament in 2010.
They join Algeria, Egypt, Ghana, Tunisia, Cape Verde, and Morocco in next year’s competition. Two more spots will be decided by Wednesday morning, as the winners of Groups B and F are confirmed. One more African team could still qualify via the interconfederation playoffs.
