European clubs react to Super Eagles’ World Cup play-off qualification
Three European clubs have reacted to the Super Eagles’ qualification for the 2026 World Cup playoffs after their 4–0 win over Benin Republic. Brentford, Fulham, and Sevilla all celebrated the achievement, highlighting their Nigerian players’ contributions.
Fulham, with Nigerian stars Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey, and Samuel Chukwueze, tweeted, “Our three Naija boys started in a crucial World Cup qualifying victory, with Samu getting two assists.” Sevilla, featuring Akor Adams, wrote, “Akor earned his first start for Nigeria in a 4–0 win to secure a place in the playoffs for the World Cup. We mount.”
Brentford, where Frank Onyeka plays, posted, “Frank the Tank. Frank Onyeka’s goal guarantees the Super Eagles a spot in the Play-Offs for next summer’s World Cup.”
