Nilakshika de Silva blasts record fifty as Sri Lanka posts 258-6 against New Zealand

Nilakshika de Silva’s rapid half-century, the fastest in the Women’s ODI Cricket World Cup 2025, helped Sri Lanka reach 258/6 against New Zealand at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Tuesday.

De Silva’s unbeaten 55 off 28 balls included a record fifty from just 26 deliveries, setting the tournament’s fastest fifty. Sri Lanka, after winning the toss, posted a solid 101-run opening partnership between Chamari Athapaththu and Vishmi Gunaratne. Athapaththu contributed 53 before being dismissed by Sophie Devine.

Gunaratne was out for 83, and Hasini Perera added 44 before being dismissed. De Silva’s late assault, which added 80 runs in the final 10 overs, set a competitive total. Devine took 3-54 for New Zealand.
