Norway Chess unveils Total Chess World Championship Tour
The organisers of Norway Chess announced a new World Championship on Thursday. It will crown a champion in three time controls: Fast Classic, Rapid, and Blitz. The new championship, called the Total Chess World Championship Tour, will have four events each year, and the winner will be the FIDE World Combined Champion.
The championship will offer a total prize pool of $2.7 million each year. The first full season starts in 2027, and a pilot event will be held in 2026. The goal is to find the best player in all three formats of chess, using a mix of traditional and modern approaches.
