Om Birla highlights India’s democracy at Commonwealth meet
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla stated that India exemplifies democracy and equality, with its Constitution guiding the nation for 75 years. Speaking at the 68th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in Barbados, Birla described democracy as India’s soul, equality as its resolve, and justice as its identity. He invited the Parliament’s Presiding Officers to the next Commonwealth Speakers’ Conference in New Delhi in January 2026. Birla also stressed the need for global cooperation to address challenges like climate change, pandemics, and food insecurity, highlighting India’s role in global health and food security, as well as its efforts toward women’s empowerment and technological innovation in strengthening democracy.
