Opportunity Malawi boosts farmers’ resilience in Zomba

Opportunity International Malawi wants to help farmers become self-reliant despite climate change. Chisomo Zamadunga, Technical Advisor for Financial Services, shared this goal during a meeting with the Zomba District Executive Committee. The organization is running a project called “Enhancing Resilience of Smallholder Farmers and Financial Institutions to Climate-Related Shocks,” which is funded by Opportunity International Germany.

The project aims to help 50,000 farmers in Zomba District, with 7,500 households receiving loans from banks like FINCA and CUMO in the first phase. Zomba often faces floods and droughts, and this project will teach farmers how to handle such emergencies. The program hopes to expand and help even more farmers in the future.
