Pakistan, Afghanistan agree to 48-hour ceasefire after border clashes
Pakistan and Afghanistan have agreed to a 48-hour ceasefire, effective from 5:30 PM (Kabul time) Wednesday, after a request from Pakistan. The Taliban spokesperson, Zabihullah Mujahid, confirmed the truce, saying that all Taliban forces must observe it unless violated. Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also confirmed the agreement, aiming to resolve ongoing issues through diplomacy.
The ceasefire follows rising tensions due to border clashes and airstrikes. On Wednesday, Pakistani forces attacked Afghanistan’s Spin Boldak district, killing 12 civilians and injuring over 100. Afghan forces retaliated, killing several Pakistani soldiers and capturing posts. Medical staff in Kandahar reported at least 25 dead and over 80 injured, many of them women and children.
