Pakistan Afghanistan agree to 48-hour ceasefire
Pakistan and Afghanistan agreed to stop fighting for 48 hours after days of deadly clashes. Both sides confirmed the ceasefire on Wednesday. The fighting started after explosions in Afghan cities, which Pakistan blamed on groups in Afghanistan. In response, the Taliban attacked parts of the border, and Pakistan said it would fight back.
On Wednesday evening, smoke rose over Kabul after two explosions. The Taliban said these were from an oil tanker and a generator. Later, both sides agreed to stop fighting for 48 hours, and the Taliban ordered their forces to follow the ceasefire.
Earlier, Pakistan’s army said Taliban fighters attacked two border posts. They fought back, killing around 20 Taliban fighters. The Taliban said many civilians died, and some fighters were killed. Both sides blamed each other for the violence.
