Parliament backs first step to expand Lukoil oversight
Parliament has approved at first reading a set of amendments to the law regulating economic activities involving oil and petroleum products, focusing on the appointment of a special commercial manager for Lukoil Bulgaria. The measure passed with 130 votes in favor, 71 against, and two abstentions. Lawmakers from DPS-New Beginning, GERB-SDS, There is Such a People, and BSP-United Left supported the proposal.
The revisions allow for a special manager to oversee Lukoil’s assets within Bulgaria, expanding the manager’s authority beyond what was originally outlined in the law. Lawmakers explained that this step is needed due to significant changes in the circumstances surrounding the company, particularly after Gunvor withdrew its offer to acquire Lukoil’s foreign assets, following a decision by US authorities. The move aims to address new challenges that have emerged since the special manager role was first established.
