Parliament reviews security nominee

Bulgaria’s parliamentary committee on internal security will consider the nomination of Denyo Denev as chairman of the National Security Agency. Denev currently serves as the acting head of the organization.

The government submitted his candidacy after President Rumen Radev declined to sign an appointment decree under the previous system. Parliament subsequently transferred authority over hiring and removing the agency chairman from shared executive responsibility to legislative control. Radev vetoed the legal changes, arguing that joint oversight between government and presidency ensures better candidate evaluation, but lawmakers overrode his objection and reinstated the amendments.
