Bangladesh launches online platform to promote safe migration

Bangladesh has introduced a digital gateway connecting workers, recruitment agencies, employers and government bodies to streamline overseas employment processes and reduce migration costs. The Overseas Employment Platform was developed through collaboration between Bangladesh, the International Labour Organization and Switzerland to enhance transparency and minimize exploitation by intermediaries.

Expatriates’ Welfare Adviser Asif Nazrul described the system as vital for protecting workers who contribute significantly to national finances. Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam noted that transparent recruitment strengthens bilateral labor agreements with receiving nations. ILO Country Director Max Tunon emphasized the platform supports fair recruitment standards by centralizing information and improving regulatory oversight of placement firms.

Officials pledged continued enhancement of platform capabilities to ensure migrant workers can pursue opportunities with safety and dignity. Swiss Embassy representative Deipak Elmar cautioned that institutional commitment from all participants will determine actual effectiveness beyond technological implementation.
