Passenger caught smuggling 6,378 Yaba pills in stomach

Airport security officers intercepted a traveler who had swallowed more than 6,000 illegal drug tablets before boarding a domestic flight on Saturday evening at Dhaka’s main aviation hub. Md Pannu Howlader, a 30-year-old man from Barguna district’s Amtoli area, arrived from Cox’s Bazar aboard US-Bangla Airlines flight BS 142 when the Airport Armed Police Battalion stopped him based on intelligence tips near the domestic arrival area.

Medical imaging showed numerous oval items packed inside his digestive system. Physicians at Kurmitola General Hospital later removed 136 separate packages containing 6,378 Yaba pills from his stomach. Authorities filed charges against Howlader under the Narcotics Control Act of 2018 through the Airport Police Station.

Mohammad Mozammel Haque, who oversees operations for the Airport Armed Police Battalion, described the quantity of narcotics carried internally as deeply disturbing. The security unit maintains ongoing efforts to block illegal smuggling operations at the airport facility.
