Penang chief minister says Mount Erskine underpass won’t cause traffic chaos

Penang’s Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said traffic will not be greatly affected by the Mount Erskine Underpass project. The RM25 million project will create an underpass to link Mount Erskine Road with Burmah Road. Traffic will still flow on the road above as part of it is cut for the underpass. Roads from Mount Erskine to Gottlieb Road and Jalan Bagan Jermal will stay open.

Chow explained that the underpass is similar to the one at Udini Road, which helps reduce traffic lights. The Mount Erskine project should also lower the number of traffic light phases from four to three or two. Land for the project was already obtained. The state is waiting for further plans from the federal government.
