Phil Simmons condemns racial abuse of Jaker Ali and social media criticism
Bangladesh national team head coach Phil Simmons condemned the racial abuse aimed at wicketkeeper-batter Jaker Ali, both online and in the stands. He also expressed his views on players using social media, stating that he doesn’t want them engaging with critics.
Simmons said, “It’s your right to be on social media, but as a national player for Bangladesh, my players should not be on there.” He condemned the racial comments directed at Jaker Ali, calling them “disgusting.”
The controversy began in February 2024, when Mohammad Salahuddin, now an assistant coach, made comments about Jaker’s complexion. Simmons acknowledged the remark but questioned how it justified the abuse Jaker faced.
