Stakeholders push for skilled pharmacists to boost healthcare in Bangladesh

At a meeting in Dhaka, speakers discussed the need to train more skilled pharmacists to improve healthcare in Bangladesh. Experts noted that while most pharmacists worldwide work in hospitals or pharmacies, Bangladesh faces a shortage of trained professionals.

With over 200,000 medicine outlets, the country needs about 400,000 licensed pharmacists to improve services. The meeting, held by the Bangladesh Pharmacy Council, focused on improving pharmacy education, accreditation, and policies in universities.

Health Secretary Md Saidur Rahman suggested creating a new BCS Pharmacy Cadre for public hospitals to create more jobs for pharmacists. He also called for better training for pharmacy educators and closer cooperation between education bodies to address challenges in pharmacy education.
