Probe body formed after Mirpur factory fire kills 16
A seven-member probe committee has been formed to investigate the deadly fire at a garment factory and chemical warehouse in Mirpur’s Shialbari area, which resulted in 16 deaths. The Fire Service and Civil Defence set up the committee, with Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Tajul Islam Chowdhury, director of FSCD, as the chairman. Other members include Md Yeasir Arafat Khan, Atish Chakma, Siadul Alam Chowdhury, Sohrab Hossain, Fasir Uddin, and Saleh Uddin.
Meanwhile, autopsies were conducted on ten more victims on Thursday. All were unidentified, aged between 15 and 30 years, and their DNA samples were sent to the CID. The Ministry of Labour and Employment had earlier formed another seven-member committee to investigate the incident.
The fire, which broke out at NR Garments and a nearby chemical warehouse in Mirpur on Tuesday, claimed the lives of 16 people.
