RAB seizes Tk20 crore in counterfeit currency in Chattogram raid

Rapid Action Battalion-7 (RAB) seized counterfeit currency worth around Tk20 crore, including foreign notes, in a raid in Chattogram on Tuesday. The operation took place at an apartment in the Chandgaon-Bakalia area, where fake Bangladeshi taka, US dollars, euros, dirhams, and riyals were found.

The arrested individual, identified as Tanjib, an online trader, is linked to a gang that had been printing counterfeit money in presses in Anderkilla and distributing it via online platforms like Daraz. RAB officials said the counterfeit currency closely resembled the originals, with local notes ranging from Tk50 to Tk1,000 and fake foreign notes also included.

The gang has been operating for a long time, targeting both local and foreign currencies. Investigations are ongoing, with more arrests expected, and the counterfeit money has been sent for forensic analysis.
