Reza Kibria joins BNP, to contest Habiganj-1 seat
Reza Kibria announced his membership in the Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Wednesday and declared his intention to seek election from the Habiganj-1 parliamentary seat using the party’s sheaf of paddy emblem. Kibria confirmed his political shift during a media interaction on November 5, marking his return to contest the same constituency where he competed as a nominee under the identical symbol during the 2018 polls. His father previously served as the national finance minister.
The BNP has not finalized its candidate selection for Habiganj-1, a seat currently without representation. Kibria brings prior organizational experience, having held leadership roles at Gono Forum and founded both Gono Adhikar Parishad and its splinter group Amjanata Dal. His entry adds prominence to the party’s candidate pool ahead of the upcoming national elections. Kibria’s background includes sustained engagement with opposition alliances and grassroots mobilization efforts across northeastern districts. Party officials are expected to formalize nominations shortly following internal consultations.
