DUCSU VP accuses group of targeting activists over campus issues

Dhaka University student leader Abu Shadik Kayem condemned what he termed cultural fascist elements on Wednesday for waging a smear effort against campus activists AB Zubair and Sarbamitra Chakma. Kayem, DUCSU vice president, stated the pair faced attacks due to their anti-narcotics and vendor clearance initiatives at the university. He reported these groups used social media to depict individuals as subhuman while misusing artistic expression to spread fear.

Kayem warned that such tactics resurrected dangerous historical methods and threatened severe repercussions for those treating citizens as disposable targets instead of debating ideas. He asserted Bangladesh’s renewed era holds zero tolerance for intimidation disguised as culture. The DUCSU official emphasized his organization would firmly oppose efforts to normalize violence through dehumanizing rhetoric, drawing parallels to past political eras. Kayem stressed campus safety required rejecting all forms of ideological extremism targeting reformers. He issued the remarks via an online post addressing recent campus tensions.
